HOA Board Opportunities

Dear Homeowners,
I am writing this letter to introduce myself and inform you of recent developments
with our HOA. At the May 15, 2021 HOA meeting Grady Fuller resigned as Vice
President of the Steeplechase HOA. At that same meeting the board appointed me,
Jonathan Scheffrahn, to serve in his place as Vice President of our HOA.
The second reason I am writing this letter is to announce that none of the current
board members wish to continue in their roles on the HOA board. They have all served
for many years and would like for someone else to have a turn. We need candidates to
fill the positions for the HOA and we also need volunteers to help us complete the
election. Would you be willing to help us?
Serving on the Board:
Almost everyone in our neighborhood is eligible to serve on the board. Here are
the requirements from Texas code Sec. 209.00591:
● You cannot cohabit with another current member of the board.
● You cannot have committed a felony or crime involving moral turpitude less than
20 years ago.
● You must be current on your HOA dues.1
We hope to have five members of the board to share the workload to make it
easier on everyone as follows:
● President
● Vice President
● Vice President
● Treasurer
● Secretary
If you are interested in serving in any of these positions we need the following
from you by June 25th at 5pm: Name, Address, Position, Email or Phone. You may also
include an optional short bio that we will post on the steeplechasehoa.us website prior

Why You Should Consider Serving:
I want to give you three reasons to consider serving.
● Reason #1 – It keeps your annual dues lower. By having a volunteer HOA board
we are able to keep the annual dues much lower than they would be if we had to
hire a company from the outside to manage our HOA. They have been
unchanged at $72 per year for a long time and my hope is we can keep it that
way.
● Reason #2 – A responsive and neighborly HOA board improves all of our
property values.
● Reason #3 – It gives you an opportunity to love and care for your neighbors.
Our hope is that beginning with this election we will have terms for two years and so our
next election would be in 2023.
Election Volunteers:
If you are unable to serve as a candidate we still need your help! We need volunteers
who will be willing to go door to door at the time of the election to help us distribute and
collect ballots. If you are willing to serve on this election committee please notify me at
jscheffrahn@gmail.com. Our next committee meeting will be on June 26th to make the
ballots and coordinate the election.
Timeline of the Election:
The candidates will be posted on the Steeplechase website by June 28th and the
election will be held July 2 through July 22 by paper ballot. They will be distributed by
volunteers going door to door and also available on the steeplechasehoa.us website.
Along with the ballot we hope to gather more updated information from our
neighborhood to have a more accurate neighborhood directory with things like phone,
email, and current occupation.
I’m looking forward to this new season in our neighborhood and I hope many of you will
be willing to serve either on the board or as a volunteer for the election as many hands
make light work.
